What is FAST?
FAST is a free online tax program where you will complete your own taxes. Certified IRS-trained volunteers are on site to answer any questions you have and to check your return to make sure everything was completed correctly.
How does FAST work?
- Register for the program by choosing a username and password
- Keep your username and password handy for future reference
- Start filing your return—it's that easy!
- If you have any questions, ask your volunteer; they're here to help you
- Check the status of your return via email or by logging in to the company's website
- If you're due a refund, check the status on www.irs.gov
- You should receive confirmation within 2 days that your return was accepted by the IRS
- Direct deposit refunds can take less than two weeks!
I'm filing a FAST return—What do I need to get started?
- Basic computer skills: if you can browse the web, you can file your return online!
- An email address: it's required to register, and you'll receive updates on your return via email
- All supporting information (so you can complete the return): SSNs (for yourself, your spouse, and any dependents claimed)
- Income information (W-2, 1099) and all other supporting documentation
- Your 2010 tax return or PIN
- If you don't have your prior tax return or PIN, a volunteer can help you get that information
- Bank account and routing information (when choosing Direct Deposit)
