What do you think the barriers are to families leaving Federal Assistance Programs such as rental or public assistance?
Jennifer is a single mother with two children, ages 8 months and 2 years old. She used to work as a nurses’ assistant, but has been unemployed for the past 2 ½ years. She has her GED, is open to taking training classes, and wants something similar to what she used to do but making more money. The only problem is that she has the two little ones, all of her family is out of town, and she cannot afford daycare. What would you suggest to Jennifer?
Amy has been at zero income ever since enrolling in the FSS program 3.5 years ago. She has been taking classes so she can get her High School Equivalency through Catholic Charities, but says she is too afraid to take the test, and has not been looking for a job. Amy is coming in for a counseling session next week. As her FSS Coach, what would you prepare for the meeting?
Barbara comes to you because next week she planning to start applying for bank teller jobs. She has a friend who works at the bank, so she knows she is going to need a minimum credit score. What would you suggest/work on with Barbara for her job search?
